When it comes to outdoor weddings, the sky is the limit when it comes to creativity! One of the most important decisions you’ll make is what kind of seating chart you’ll use and what type of table decorations will set the mood. We’ve put together a few tips that will help you choose the perfect seating chart and décor for your outdoor venue.
The first thing you need to consider is the size of your guest list. If you’re having a large wedding, you’ll want to make sure that your seating chart can accommodate all your guests. You may also want to consider using a mix of assigned seating for dinner and offering cozy furniture pieces that create a comfortable hang out spot for before and after dinner. This will allow your guests to mingle and socialize while still having a designated spot to sit during dinner.
Some things you want to consider:
Should you do the seating chart alphabetically or by table? Alphabetizing your guest list, makes finding a table assignment easy and can expedite the process.
Relationships and tensions? Being aware of family members and/or friends that may have disagreements and placing them strategically at different table is always a good choice.
Where to sit children? Seating small children with their parents is a good choice, unless the children are of an age that they may like to hang with other kids their age. Providing items that will entertain such as glow sticks, small table games never hurt!

As far as table decor:
Table Numbers: We strongly suggest using table numbers that ARE NOT PAPER or LIGHTWEIGHT. You can find some good options here: https://www.brides.com/gallery/wedding-table-numbers
We also recommend flameless candles. They stay lit and last a long time. Candelabras are popular right now. Real candelabras should be in an enclosure, but flameless candelabras are gaining popularity.
“Plan around wind” is what we deal with most often. Two things to keep in mind with candles as a part of your design: venue policies, and wind! Maybe your venue allows candles, but you’ll be outdoors. Even the tiniest breeze will snuff out a pretty flame. Ensure that your wicks are about two inches below your chimney sleeve or glass holder.
By following these tips, you’ll be sure to choose the perfect seating chart and décor for your outdoor venue! Remember that your venue is one of the best resources for what works well. Collaborating with your venue to bring your vision to life is essential!
